Although I do not yet own any of the printers discussed here, I have learned just enough details on each printers to allow me to make an informed decision as to which printer to add to my current Printer Army this coming year.
We have 4 new choices for printers a this moment.
The EPSON P400 which is a gloss optimizer printer with an ink set like that of the R2000
The Epson P600 ( 13″ width capacity ) and R800 ( 17 width capacity plus roll paper capabilities ) which use the newly formulated and improved Vivid Magenta K3 ink system promising much better d-max and shadows, color saturation and tonal separation.
Wether we’ll be able to actually physicaly see a difference between a current PRO3880 R3000 or R2880 which all use the surrent VM/K3 ink system, and one of these two new P600 or P800, the jury is still out on that.
Then there is the CANON PRO1000 which with its expanded color palette should prove a winner!
The only negative I see with this printer is its paper or print length limitation of only 22 inches not to mention the traditional CANON self imposed limit on border width when using the Fine Art Option in the driver.
So in short we welcome all new developments on photographic printers and hope that these new printers are fully accepted by the public!
