Nitto Type Quick Couplings – The Workshop Standard You Probably Already Use

# Nitto Type Quick Couplings – The Workshop Standard You Probably Already Use

By RUICHEN PNEUMATIC | July 25, 2026

If you work with compressed air tools in Asia or Australia, you’ve almost certainly used a Nitto-type quick coupling. It’s the Japanese standard — push-to-connect, single-action, just plug it in and go.

Here’s a quick rundown of what makes it different, and how to pick the right one.

## Nitto in 30 Seconds

| What | Details |
|—|—|
| Connection | Push to connect, pull sleeve to release |
| Threads | BSPT / BSPP (not NPT!) |
| Common sizes | 1/4″ (7.5mm bore), 3/8″, 1/2″ |
| Max pressure | 15–20 bar |
| Materials | Hardened steel, brass, 304/316 stainless |

## Where You’ll Find It

– Garage swapping between impact wrench and blow gun
– Factory workstation with quick tool changes
– Workshop running air sanders, nail guns, spray guns
– Construction site on portable compressor lines
– Food plant — stainless version handles washdown

## Picking the Right Material

**Steel (black oxide)** — The workhorse. Heat-treated, durable, good corrosion resistance. For most industrial and workshop use.

**Brass** — Budget-friendly, good for light use. Softer than steel, so not ideal if you connect/disconnect all day.

**Stainless (304/316)** — For food, pharma, marine, or anywhere with washdowns. Costs more but lasts.

## 3 Mistakes People Make

1. **Mixing profiles** — Nitto plugs don’t fit American or European couplers. Pick one standard and stick with it.

2. **Wrong threads** — Nitto uses BSP, not NPT. NPT has a 60° thread angle, BSP is 55°. They look similar but won’t seal together.

3. **Undersized coupling** — 1/4″ handles most tools. For high-CFM tools like sanders or spray guns, go 3/8″ or 1/2″.
