Every pneumatic line starts with the same question: how do I connect the tube to the valve? Two options dominate the market, and they work very differently under the hood.
Push-in fittings (also called one-touch or instant fittings) grip the tube with internal teeth and seal it with an O-ring. You push the tube in, it locks, and that is the whole install. Release is equally simple — press the collet ring and pull.
Compression fittings rely on a nut, a ferrule, and a body. Tighten the nut, the ferrule squeezes down on the tube, and the mechanical grip carries the load. No O-ring involved — the seal comes from metal-on-plastic or metal-on-metal contact.
Where each fitting wins
Push-in fittings are the default choice for shop air, robotics, and any application where you will take the line apart again. They install in seconds, need no tools, and tolerate vibration better than most people expect. Our PBT and nickel-plated brass push-in range covers 4mm to 16mm tube, with straight, elbow, tee and Y configurations.
Compression fittings shine where temperatures climb, where the line must not move, and where a pull-test spec is on the print. The metal ferrule bites deep, so the connection holds under repeated flexing and higher pressure. They cost a bit more in labour — every joint takes a wrench — but they are a set-and-forget connection.
The honest trade-off
Push-in: fast, tool-free, easy to service, great for 90% of industrial air circuits.
Compression: stronger bite, better for high temperature and permanent installations, slower to assemble.
Most plants end up running both — push-in for the workbench and machine cabinet, compression for anything that runs hot or never comes apart.
How to choose (30-second test)
Ask yourself three questions:
1. Will I disconnect this line more than twice a year? → Push-in
2. Does the application see over 80°C? → Compression
3. Is vibration or constant motion involved? → Push-in, with a tube-support coil if it is aggressive
